Bat Crafts!

Everybody loves puppets! They are fun for parents and kids alike. The best part though, is the fun you can have making them.

We’ve got a few options for you here.

Tempting Templates

We love this adorable template from Red Ted Art. With some construction paper, scissors, string, brads, and glue you can have your own flapping bat! You kids won’t know which they love more, assembling these cute bats or playing with them!

If you need a bit more clarification on how to put these bats puppets together, never fear. Red Ted Art has provided you with comprehensive instructions here. Give this one a shot; you’ll thank us!

Next up we have the cutest little finger puppet you’ve ever seen! We found this one over at I Heart Crafty Things. All you’ll need is some felt, scissors, googly eyes, and a few sewing odds and ends. Get creative with your colors and patterns and make bat puppets as unique as you are.

Encourage your child’s imagination and have them decorate these cute little critters any way he or she wants. Find detailed instructions here.

Both of these template crafts will require adult supervision. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Thumbs Up!

Who doesn’t love getting their hands a little dirty? Finger paint is a great way to channel your child’s proclivity towards mess-making into a fun and festive work of art.

We got the idea for this batty craft from Crafty Morning. All you’ll need is some paint, paper, scissors and a few of your little one’s fingers. Your child will use his or her paint-covered fingertips to create a bat-themed masterpiece.

Refreshing Refreshments

One surefire way to increase the deliciousness of any food or drink is to give it a theme! Festive treats are way more fun than the usual, boring food.

First up, we have this…

Foaming Bat Punch

Make this perfectly pleasant punch at your next party and impress all your guests! The colors are positively grotesque (in the best possible way), and the flavor is to die for!

Ingredients include:

  • Frozen purple grape juice concentrate
  • Water
  • Ginger ale
  • Green sherbert

For exact proportions and instructions, check out Kid Friendly Things To Do.

To make your purple and green bat punch extra special, make this super-easy ribbon bat straws. Just pick up some black ribbon, googly eyes, and bendy straws.

To make these adorable straws:

  1. Cut your ribbon with a tight, wavy pattern at about 3-inch intervals
  2. Tie your 3-inch piece on your bendy straws directly over the bendy part
  3. Glue your googly eyes over the knot

It’s as simple as that! For an example of what the finished craft should look like, go here.

Chocolate Bats

What’s better than treats that are delicious? Easy, treats that are delicious and simple to make! When you’re searching for a go-to, bat-themed snack, look no further than the sweet concoctions conjured up by Suburban Simplicity.

These super-simple four-ingredient chocolate bats make use of easy-to-find products you can purchase at your local grocery store.

What you’ll need:

  1. Mini peanut butter cups
  2. Oreo thins
  3. Vanilla and chocolate frosting
  4. A little ingenuity and imagination!

To assemble:

  1. Remove the white icing inside the oreo thins
  2. As evenly as possible, cut or break the cookies in equal halves
  3. Using a bit of the chocolate icing attach the cookie “wings” to the peanut butter cup “bodies”
  4. Fill two piping bags or plastic sandwich bags with chocolate and vanilla frosting respectively
  5. Pipe two white circles of vanilla frosting for eyes above the point at which the 2 “wings” meet on top of the “body”
  6. Wait several minutes for vanilla frosting to dry
  7. Pipe two smaller circles on top of the white eye circles for pupils

Now for the fun part! Admire your craftiness and enjoy the chocolatey goodness. For reference, the finished product should look like this.

Dress To Impress

Costumes aren’t just for Halloween anymore! Stretch your sewing wings and create these cute costumes for your kids.

Wiki How has a complete and comprehensive list of instructions for an excellent homemade bat costume. This one is great, but it requires a bit of time and precision. It’s one you will have to make, and your kid will get to enjoy.

We promise it will be worth the effort though when you see the look of pure joy on your child’s face as he or she runs around flapping those perfectly produced bat wings.

While sewing may be optional for the previous piece, this next one requires some skill with a needle and thread. Thankfully though, you will need fewer materials. All you’ll need is some felt, scissors, and a sewing machine.

We love this one because even though it is just a simple bat mask, you can crank up the creativity by having your child choose his or her favorite felt and string color combo.

Print out a simple bat mask template or simply freehand a bat shape with chalk on your felt. Either way, have fun with it! After all, a good attitude is contagious, pass it on to your child.

With Halloween fast approaching, we hope we have given you some bat-tacular ideas to think over as the holiday festivities draw closer. From all of us here at CP Bat Mitigationl, we wish you a Happy Halloween.
