Brass Rainscreen Cladding
Brass is any alloy of mainly copper and zinc; however, other products such as aluminium/lead can also be added. The proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. Brass tends to have a muted yellow colour, somewhat similar to gold and it is relatively resistant to tarnishing.
Today almost 90% of all brass alloys are recycled. As brass is not ferromagnetic, it can be separated from ferrous scrap by passing the scrap near a powerful magnet. Brass scrap is collected and transported to the foundry where it is melted and recast into billets. Billets are heated and extruded into the desired form and size.
Over a period of time each panel will form its own distinct and unique characteristics and will continue to evolve and change in colour from an initial yellow to a greenish brown tone, slowly turning a greyish brown before finally resting at a dark brown colour.
Brass offers an outstanding mechanical abrasion resistance, extremely high corrosion resistance and a high level of durability, stability and material rigidity. These qualities make Brass a great alternative façade material that can offer something more aesthetically unique.
